Robert Schreuder Antiques houses a fascinating collection of antiques that are not only of special artistic or art-historical value but also very decorative, gracing modern as well as classical interiors.

One of its specialities is Grand Tour souvenirs, with their echoes of the journeys of travellers from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They include bronze and plaster models of Roman monuments and of well-known antique statues featuring gladiators, wrestlers and horsemen. Of the gods Mercury and Apollo and the goddess Diana, and of great masters such as Homer, and the emperors Vitellius and Augustus. The Grand Tour tourists also brought home with them prints and gouaches of the sites they had seen: vedute of Tivoli and views across the Bay of Naples, most featuring the mighty Vesuvius in the background. Of special interest are the various collections of plaster intaglios, portraying images of gods and goddesses, well-known works of art and individuals. Micro mosaics of famous antique Roman buildings can be found on paperweights or framed in gold to serve as a brooch.

The collection of library accessories and collectibles contains a large variety of writing boxes, inkwells, paperweights and several other items combining elegance and usefulness. Of particular interest are the various collectibles, including tea caddies and tea boxes, sewing boxes, specially shaped thermometers and miniature portraits.

Robert Schreuder’s collection also includes furniture: armoires, bookcases, desks, tables, chairs and couches from the neoclassical, Empire and Biedermeier periods. And, of course, those items that help embellish every interior: mirrors, candlesticks, fire screens, table lamps and chandeliers.
